WIWS - Happy Feast of the Archangels!!!

Linking up, as always, with the lovely ladies of Fine Linen and Purple for "What I Wore Sunday." :-)

The blogging world is atwitter today with celebrations for Michaelmas. It makes me pretty happy...because I've long celebrated this day with much joy. It's my patron saint day!!!

I love St. Michael with a very deep (and grateful) affection. He has been such a fantastic patron saint, and I'm grateful to my parents for making sure that I knew him from a young age. Since my childhood (and over the course of my childhood) I acquired many more saints as friends, but St. Michael will always be my first.

(For the Halloween I was in Kindergarten, I dressed up as an angel. A little boy I was friends with dressed up as a devil and I chased him around the parish Halloween party determined that I needed to "defeat him." I was totally wanting to be like my patron saint!!!)

The girls behaved beautifully at Mass today. It was the kind of Mass that gives you hope as a parent that maybe, one day, your children will always behave like civilized beings at liturgies. ;-)

After Mass we attempted a Sunday drive, and were mostly successful. (And yes, the Abbot treated me to a milkshake and chicken nuggets in honor of my patron saint day...Mmmmmm...) Our drive ended as they always do these days - with Sister Nugget testing her lung strength. Poor girl gets herself so worked up (as you can tell in the above picture).

This week, by the way, is my favorite week of the year as far as saint days go! Today was the feast of the Archangels, St. Therese is on Tuesday, then the Guardian Angels, then St. Francis, and Our Lady of the Rosary next Monday. I always find it semi-amusing that dear, melancholy St. Jerome is sandwiched in there, too. The poor guy gets such a bad rep...but he was probably just an introvert, don't you think?

Anyway, St. Therese is one of Sister Stinky's patron saints (or, in her words, "St. Therese...she my favorite saint!!"), Our Lady of the Rosary is one of the many patron saints days of Sister Nugget (although I think the big one we'll celebrate is Our Lady of Mount Carmel, since that's our favorite title of Mary), and one of my twin sister's patron saints is St. Francis...so it's a pretty great week for patron saint days around here!!! I've got some fun things in mind for Sister Stinky (and a small surprise for her auntie from her goddaughter...but pretend you didn't read that, Auntie, okay?), and I look forward to sharing the deets with you after the fact, friends.

Closing with an awesome prayer, invoking the intercession of a pretty awesome saint:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do, thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the divine power of God
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

  1. I really love your necklace. Your skirt looks like it's a lovely and versatile one that would work with many cute outfits!!

  2. St. Michael is my sons's patron saint! We are big st. Michael fans over here but sadly we missed the feast day. I love the month if October, we also celebrate St. Therese's feast day and I have a special baking day planned for the kids on the feast of he guardian angels. And St. Gerard's feast day is coming up as well!
