WIWS - 5 weeks postpartum!!

Linking up with the lovely ladies of Fine Linen and Purple for What I Wore Sunday. Hope on over for more Mass attire loveliness!

I feel like Mass continues to be more challenging with two stinkers...but I think a lot of it also has to do with the adjustment period. I'm getting the hang of soothing Sister Nugget to sleep at Mass now (and am okay with her not falling asleep, too), but Sister Stinky is still hit or miss in terms of how well she copes with Mommy leaving Mass with the baby to go nurse the baby in the narthex or Mommy sitting during Mass because baby is in just the right position and kneeling would wake her up or Mommy's lap being otherwise occupied. Soooo alot of the acting out we're seeing is related to that. I think as time goes on, she's seeing that we love her just as much as ever and she needn't worry.

Something I've struggled with alot is the fact that I can't give her the one-on-one attention I once could, and feeling guilty about that. And this, friends, is where it's extremely helpful to view life in light of growing in holiness. Because, the reality is, life doesn't revolve around any one of us. There are gentle ways to learn it (like, learning to wait a few minutes for Mommy's attention while she changes your baby sister's diaper) and harsher ways to learn it (like, being an adult and having to come to terms with that). I try to remind myself that growing in selflessness - even as a two year old - is a very good thing. She is by no means starved for attention, but she is learning that being helpful and loving is more important than seeking attention. Sister Stinky is such a good and helpful big sister, and she is proud of herself for that (and we are sure to tell her how proud we are of her, too). Ultimately, knowing that she is needed and that she is helpful is going to give her more satisfaction than anything else. (Very Montessorish, incidentally!)

So, some of this week's pictures are devoted to my very good big sister and the baby sister who adores her.

First, this is what I wore to Mass (picture quality down a notch because our camera needs charging so I've been using the Abbot's hand-me-down ipod):

And here's what was happening while I was getting dressed (because I asked her to keep her sister happy but also because Sister Stinky just wants to be by her sister all the time):

Did I mention that whenever Sister Nugget cries, Sister Stinky starts singing "Rock-a-bye Baby" to her? Except, her lyrics are more like, "Rocker on, baby. Treetop! Rocker on, baby. Treetop!"

Sweet, sweet sisters. Makes all the challenges worth it. :-)
