{phfr} Assumption and an Anniversary!

Linking up with the lovely Auntie Leila.

{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}

Four years ago yesterday, on the Feast of the Assumption, the Abbot and I gave God our "yes" to our vocation...and our little Domestic Monastery began...

It was fitting that we gave God our "yes" on a feast dedicated to the one who gave God the most perfect "yes" of all. Early on in our relationship, we selected three precious patron saints for our relationship. All three were special to us in some way. St. Michael the Archangel is my patron saint (since my name is Michele) and the Abbot had a special devotion to him, too. St. Therese was and is one of my dearest friends, and the Abbot came to love her through me. But Mary...oh...the Abbot had and has a special devotion to her, and I have come to love her more deeply because of him and his children,

It was the Abbot's idea to get married on the Feast of the Assumption...and every year I am so happy we did! Because of that beautiful feast we are always guaranteed to go to Mass together on our anniversary...and we always hear the same readings and prayers we did at our wedding Mass!

As beautiful as that day was - and the Mass was truly one of the most joyfilled I'd ever attended- I would take any one day of our actual marriage over our wedding day in a heartbeat. That was only the beginning...the very beginning of living out this vocation of ours. Sitting in Mass yesterday with the Abbot and our daughters I was overwhelmed with such gratitude and joy. To think that THIS is the vocation God has given to me? This is how I am to grow in holiness?

God's love and generosity is overwhelming. And there is no one else I would rather journey to heaven with.

Inside our wedding rings is engraved our family motto, "Totus tuus Domine." All is yours, Lord. Through this beautiful vocation, may we live out that prayer more fully everyday!

Mary, our Mother, pray for us!

  2. Happy anniversary! My husband and I have over the last couple years started trying to go to mass together on our anniversary. This year it was off by a few days but it was the day we celebrated our anniversary! It is such a blessing.

  3. This is my favorite and I feel the exact same way, except I probably could not have expressed it so beautifully: "As beautiful as that day was - and the Mass was truly one of the most joyfilled I'd ever attended- I would take any one day of our actual marriage over our wedding day in a heartbeat."
