{Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real}

Happy 5th of July! And now for some photos of the 4th...

{pretty}

Sister Stinky was all decked out in her red, white, and blue. You better believe she got some compliments!

{happy}

In the abyss that is graduate student life, we are grateful for every opportunity we have to spend time with the Abbot. It was nice that he was able to take part of the day off yesterday! Having the Abbot to ourselves for most of the day in the middle of the week is a real treat! (Because, yes, doctoral students work doesn't stop completely for federal holidays. Go figure.)

{funny}

Were we as close to the 4th of July parade as we could have been? No. Were we sure to find a tiny patch of shade in which to watch the floats go by in the 100+ degree weather we've been having lately? You betcha.

{real}

No fireworks around these parts yesterday (well, with a few exceptions here and there). Most places cancelled their fireworks shows because of the high fire risk in these drought-like conditions. But we were still so happy to catch the tail end of this lovely patriotic parade!

Oh boy, to I have some treats coming up for you in some of these up and coming posts! I've finally taken the dive and started implementing some real Montessori fun around here! Get ready for a post about our new Tot school, a toddler Montessori-inspired room, and maybe even a tutorial on making your own sandpaper letters!

  2. Looking forward to the Montessori-inspired room! I'm currently working on my son's room, which I've dubbed Star Warsdorf (Star Wars meets Waldorf).

  3. I had grand ideas for celebrating the 4th with the kids, and we ended up just napping and staying inside. T is terrified of fireworks of any kind which makes any celebration a little difficult!

    I am excited to see the Mintessori stuff; recently we have been working on using tongs to move different shaped and weighted things to and from different colored and shaped bowls. Soon we need to start numbers, T just things they are "wrong letters" (ie 3 is a bad E)
